I'm so stoked you're here!! I'm a Indiana-based Wedding & Elopement photographer.
If you're ready for dance parties, cool adventures, tips & tricks then stick around and let's be BFF's
Everything is in to place, guest list, timeline, etc. you feel like there might be a few things that you’re forgetting? I gotchuuuuu boo!! Here are a few tips and tricks I tell all of my brides!!
Tip #1 Hydration is key!
Have a bottle of water handy in between the mimosas you’ll be having in the morning while you’re getting ready! Put those bridesmaids or groomsmen on water duty to make sure you’re drinking enough throughout the day to prevent those headaches or even fainting due to lack of water!! (trust me, i’ve seen it)
Tip #2 Ask your officiant to step to the side for your first kiss.
Unless your officiant does weddings often they typically wont know this or probably just didn’t think about it. make sure you remind your officiant to step aside after announcing you guys as husband and wife and saying “you may now kiss your bride” that way you don’t have a man awkwardly hanging out in the background of your first kiss photo! Lol
Tip #3 Eat something!
Make sure you eat something! Sometimes, wedding days are so busy that the bride and groom ask the caters to pack up plates and cake for them so that when you finally arrive to the place you’re going to be for the night and you’re starving you can enjoy some food and your wedding cake! 🙂
Tip #4 Make sure you have a plan
Make sure that you have designated someone to take gifts and all your mementos home (guest book, card box, etc.) Changing out of your wedding dress before leaving the venue at the end of the night? Assign someone to take it home for you! You can assign responsibilities like these to bridesmaids, groomsmen, family members, or day of planner!
Tip #5 Make a timeline
Making a detailed timeline is so important to assure everyone is on the same page! Make a timeline and give it to everyone, vendors, groomsmen, bridesmaids, family members, etc. This helps everyone know where to be and when and for everyone to know what is expected of them!!
Tip #6 Tell your guest to hide their phones during ceremony!
Theres nothing quite like a gorgeous shot of the bride walking down the isle and her reaction with all of the emotions hitting her and then you see 15 cell phones pop out of the isle……. yep, ive been there and that is not a photo you want! Make sure your officiant announces before the ceremony to keep cell phones away, thats why you hired a photographer (hopefully me;) ) to capture all the moments and they can relax and live in the moments!
Tip #7 Make sure at least 2 people know how to bustle your dress!!
The more the merrier!!! i’ve found that bustling takes a few minutes to do and its much easier when multiple people know how to do it for you!
Tip #8 Groom, groomsmen, male family members, take things out of your pocket
Make sure you remind all those men at the wedding to take sunglasses off and all the things out of your back pockets and front pockets!! Ive seen way too many times, cellphones, wallets, a can of chew, gum, etc. in there pockets and then the throw them on the ground and they get lost or someone steps on something and breaks it. so make sure everything is out of pockets before pictures!
Tip #9 Straddle the toilet
yep, you read that right! Straddle the back of the toilet! thats the best way to go to the bathroom with a huge dress!!
Tip #10 Soak it all in
People talk about how fast the day goes by but you dont really understand until it happens so make sure to soak it all in. This maybe the first and last time youll ever see every single loved one in one room! soak it in and take time to just enjoy the day and the loved ones that came to celebrate the newly weds!!
I really hope this helps!!
